On the jamb above a strike plat is installed much like a strike plate used on a regular door, but this strike has a small indentation to fit the contour of the ball rather than a hole for the latch. The way they work is simple: on the top of the door there is a hole drilled and a spring loaded ball is installed which slightly protrudes from the top of the door. If you are replacing older door hardware, please check the current backset so that we can send you the right stuff.īall catches are generally used on closet doors, but can be used in other applications. Mortise Plate - The plate on the edge of the latch mechanism that provides additional security and a nicer, cleaner look.īackset - The backset on a door is the distance from the edge of the door, to the center of the bore hol in the door. This post has two door hardware terms that are good to know: Tubular latch, or latch mechanism - The cylinder driven through the edge of the door with a spring loaded latch that keeps the door closed, or allows it to open. The mortise plates not only look nice, they provide added security. The image above shows the latch mechanism with an attached mortise plate. A tubular latch mechanism for an exterior door often comes with an attached mortise plate, and requires mortising, or some chiseling to be done on the edge of the door for the plate to rest correctly recessed in the door.

The mechanism has a spring loaded latch that retracts to open the door and upon release of the door knob or lever, protrudes to keep the door closed. This is often also called a tubular latch mechanism. The great thing about Nostalgic Warehouse's line is that you can also get the old vintage look of crystal knobs or old Victorian style door knobs with standard tubular latches to fit newer standard fitting doors.Ī latch mechanism is the cylinder that is driven through the edge of the door. I had a headache all day at work and at school in the evening.

Sorry, but I didn't expect the door to have that much momentum when it came in contact with my head.

I would have seriously given Toyota a beating if the window broke. If the window was rolled down a crack, it WOULD have broke, I am sure of it. I swear, I hit the window so hard I was suprised I didn't break it. The window (rolled up) hit the top of my head so hard I blacked out for maybe 1-2 seconds - never blacked out before so I'm not sure how long it really was. As I was leaning down to pick up my bookbag, the door began it's journey to meet with the top of my head. I opened the door to my truck, and sat down, while my book bag was still on the ground next to the door sill. My truck is parked in the driveway, at a slight incline, but enough to where the door will close if not opened all the way. I was running late for work one morning (lack of sleep ) and I had to do a few things before I could get into the truck, like take out the trash, get my book bag, and close the garage door. I almost sued Toyota because of a door-closing incident.
